From the classroom to the real-world, a group of Moore High School students had a unique opportunity to explore careers at Louisville Water. It was a little like speed dating but for job insights.
Director of Engineering Jeremy Raney helped set the stage with a look at all the opportunities his department offers.

“The basics of engineering, opportunities for engineering within Louisville Water, and then a lot of focus and design elements that each engineering group engages in on a day-to-day basis.”
Education and Outreach Specialist Heather Hill worked with the human resources (HR) department to organize the tour which led the students through five different stations: engineering, IT, safety and security, customer care, communications, and HR.
A panel discussion gave students another chance to ask employees questions. When asked if they ever imagined working at a water company, all five said no.
Hill said, “I think that shows how people subconsciously rely on a dependable water source. You don’t think about where it comes from or how it’s cleaned or what jobs it takes to get it to your faucet. It’s just there. I’d say for most people outside of engineering or water quality, you likely don’t think about it when you’re considering career paths. And that was the goal of yesterday; to show them (the students) that over 470 people do many different jobs daily to ensure that our community has access to high-quality drinking water.”
Raney said forming partnerships like this one with local high school programs is important to the industry’s future.
“Right now, there’s a shortage of engineers throughout the United States. For us to engage and maybe get some interest in Louisville Water; hopefully those kids will look to us for employment after they get out of college.”
