Louisville Water Joins Thousands of Water Professionals in DC
Sharing knowledge, highlighting skills, and learning from others. Recently, a group of employees participated in the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) Annual Conference and Expo in Washington, DC.
AWWA is the largest association dedicated to drinking water and Louisville Water was a founding member in 1881. This year’s annual conference included more than 10,000 attendees from the United States and 40 countries. With a theme of celebrating the heroes that make water systems work around the world, ACE includes a robust technical program, an exhibit hall with the newest water technology, and competitions that highlight the skills of water professionals.
The conference highlighted Louisville Water’s reputation as a leader in the water sector.
Here are a few highlights:
The Lady Legends, our women’s pipe tapping team, showed their stamina and strength on the national stage.

Water Quality Director Peter Goodmann and Vice President, Communications and Marketing Kelley Dearing Smith shared technical presentations on research and how to build public trust in water.

The B.E. Payne Water Treatment Plant received an award of distinction from the Partnership for Safe Water.

A small town near New Brunswick, Canada won the award for the best-tasting tap water. (Louisville Water has previously won and did not compete this year). Kelley served as the emcee for the contest with 31 utilities submitting water samples.

Louisville Water is part of the Kentucky-Tennessee Section for AWWA and the incoming Board president is a section member, Brent Tippey from HDR Engineering.
