Foundation Grant Expanded Outdoor Education for Underserved Children

A $15,000 grant from the Louisville Water Foundation helped The Parklands of Floyds Fork expand its S.E.E.D. Program, which provides equitable access to outdoor education.

Awarded in 2024, the grant enabled the Parklands to continue its mission in 2025 by “providing transformative outdoor educational experiences to underserved communities and fostering a deeper connection with the natural world through water education,” said Sam Stewart, The Parklands’ Vice President of Development & Administration.

Through scholarships covering all expenses, including transportation and meals, students engaged in a range of hands-on activities in The Parklands’ outdoor classroom.

With a focus on water education, the program empowers students to become advocates for the environment and helps them learn about potential career paths in environmental fields.

The S.E.E.D. Program also benefits the community by improving scientific literacy among students in understanding the water cycle and water systems as well as cultivating a generation of informed citizens (including future scientists, engineers, and policymakers) who understand the complexities of water management and conservation.

The mission of the Louisville Water Foundation is “to improve the health and well-being of both the local communities we serve and around the globe through water assistance and education. The Foundation is working toward a world where safe water is available to everyone, no matter where they live.”
